cool down in the mountains
Keep cool this summer at a mountain lake, a mountain stream, or a pool with a mountain view. Whether it's lakeside, riverside, or poolside we've got you covered!
Lakes
Bluestone Lake offers 2,040 acres to play on and is perfect for soaking in the sun. Rent a boat from Bluestone Marina or bring your own. If you're looking for a more intimate lake experience try Mountain Valley Lake, a small picturesque body of water that is just perfect for the kayak.
Turn the kids (and adults) loose and let them run wild on giant inflatables on Long Branch Lake at Pipestem Resort State Park. The little ones will have a blast at the Splash Park with 18 splash features.
Rivers
Grab your kayaks, tubes, SUPs, or canoes and head to the river. We boast three! The Greenbrier, the New, and the Bluestone. There's also plenty of mountain creeks and streams to wander around in. Need a shuttle or a guide or a rental? Check out Cantrell's, Waterdawg, Pipestem Adventures, New River Trophy Outfitters, or Otter & Oak.
Hinton's original train shaped pool comes complete with two waterslides, a kiddie pool and full concessions. It's a great place to bring the family for an afternoon of fun in the sun!
The largest waterfall in the New River Gorge National Park is the perfect place to explore this the summer. The .25 mile accessible boardwalk makes it easy to enjoy the falls. Pack a picnic and make a day of it. Sit along the banks and dip your toes or let the mist from the falls cool you off as you enjoy the surrounding beauty.
The pool at Bluestone State Park makes for a relaxing day with a scenic mountain backdrop. The kiddie pool even has a waterfall!
