WHERE RIVERS MEET & COMMUNITY FLOWS
A Summers County tradition since 1965

What is the West Virginia State Water Festival?

The West Virginia State Water Festival is one of Summers County's longest running traditions, bringing visitors to Hinton each summer for parades, live entertainment, pageants, fireworks, community events, and family activities.

The festival traces its roots to the late 1950s following the completion of Bluestone Dam and Bluestone Lake. Early water ski shows on the New River inspired local leaders to create a larger celebration centered on West Virginia's waterways and outdoor heritage. The first official festival was held in 1963 as part of West Virginia's Centennial celebration, and by 1965 it had grown into a statewide event with participants and visitors from across the Mountain State.

Today, the West Virginia State Water Festival remains one of the state's premier summer festivals, celebrating community pride, local history, and the rivers and lakes that help define Summers County and southern West Virginia.
