fall, fabulous fall
FALL PHOTO OPS
Catch the colors of fall at a few of our favorite places. Heritage Point, off of Canyon Rim Trail, and Bolar Tower at Pipestem Resort State Park both deliver with mighty mountain views full of autumn hues. Sandstone Falls in the New River Gorge National Park always makes for the perfect photo backdrop. Stroll the boardwalk and take in the tranquility. Time it just right and if you're lucky you can catch the sun setting over the mountain.
FALL FAMILY FUN
Bring the family for a great fall escape to our local state parks. Pipestem offers up endless activities including horseback riding in woods full of color, ziplining through the fall foliage, e-bikes for the trails, and scenic golf courses. Bluestone puts you along the beautiful Bluestone Lake, and provides cozy cabins that are nestled in the woods with the sights, smells, and sounds of fall. There are plenty of hiking trails to enjoy the season.
FAVORITE FALL HIKES
Autumn hikes are simply the best with crunchy leaves, vivid colors, and the aromas of fall. Our favorites include Lake Shore Trail at Pipestem Resort State Park, Overlook Trail at Bluestone State Park, and of course the Bluestone Turnpike Trail that follows alongside the Bluestone National Scenic River that is perfect for hiking or biking.
FALL FOLIAGE DRIVES
Pick a road, any road! Take a riverside drive along the New River along Route 26 or the Greenbrier River along Route 3/12. Maybe try a mountainside drive along peaceful country roads such as Zion Mountain or Ramp Road. Even a drive through our state parks offer plenty of opportunities for flora, fauna, and fall foliage.
FALL FESTIVALS
Head to the Hinton Historic District for Hinton's 3-day Annual Festival Railroad Days October 11-13th. This festival is jam packed with vendors, music, food and more. Take it that extra step and plan a day trip on Amtrak from Charleston to Hinton. Get front row seats on the train as you take in the New River Gorge fall foliage changing colors.
